“I don’t understand why writers think that when they’re writing about a very conflicted, confronting character who’s got a lot of gray areas, those parts predominantly come in male form – like it’s okay for a guy to go through all of these conflicting things. But when it’s a woman, it’s this uncomfortable thing, as if it’s not okay for her to be conflicted and do horrible things.”
